All Mixed Up! Volume 16 - ABBA (Epic / Sony) (2017)

Well look what just dropped?...

It's been a few months since I compiled one of these little beauties but here we are again with volume 16 of the AMU series. And a right corker it is!!!

If this is the first time that you've come across this collection then I'll briefly explain...
I put this series together to highlight various legendary artists and remixers work through their legendary careers. Basically the cream of the crop remixed, remade, remodelled.

This one has been a labour of love for me as ABBA have been part of my musical landscape since a very early age (a long, long time ago before you ask...) and still get played regularly. "The Visitors" album is an absolute classic in my eyes while the rest of the albums rank highly too.

This collection comes with a bit of a twist as firstly just by looking at the tracklist you'll notice that this is not a run of the mill best of collection. Included are many album tracks and b-sides such as "Like An Angel Passing Through My Room", "Just Like That" & "I Am The City" (if you don't know what a B-Side is then ask someone older) alongside well known classics such as "Dancing Queen", "Knowing Me, Knowing You" etc.

Secondly, the whole collection has been remixed by esteemed Dutch producer, remixer and DJ Matt Pop. This fine remixer has produced some exquisite unofficial remixes of ABBA all of which I've included here. They're not radically changed to make them indistinguishable from the originals, in fact Matt's remixes enhance them and bring them bang up to date (even though I hasten to add that their music is timeless anyway).

As a bonus to the remixes I've also included "Story Of The Heart" which was originally released by the Benny Andersson Band and currently features on the new Steps album "Tears On The Dancefloor" alongside two megamixes for those who fancy a non-stop dose of one of the best bands in the world...EVER!!!!!!

Play it loud!!

1. Dancing Queen (Matt Pop's Getting In The Swing Mix)
2. Knowing Me, Knowing You (Matt Pop Remix)

NOW Dance '86 - Various Artists (Virgin / EMI) (1986)

Ding ding! Round 2!!!
Next up, a classic compilation from way back in 1986.

NOW Dance '86 was released on the 8th November 1986, two weeks prior to "NOW 8" being released and a week before the CD only edition "NOW That's What I Call Music '86".

The double album follows on from the very first NOW Dance album released in May 1985 and again featured twenty 12" mixes from the cream of 1986's dance scene. Unlike it's predecessor which had more of an underground theme NOW Dance '86 is a lot more chart friendly.

It features 3 number ones from Diana Ross, The Communards & Boris Gardiner along with an absolute belter of a tracklist full to the brim with classics.

As this edition was only released on double vinyl and cassette at the time I have sourced the correct mixes from digital sources to compile the album,

Get the point? Good.
Let's dance.

Record 1 Side 1

1. Diana Ross - Chain Reaction
2. Jermaine Stewart - We Don't Have To...
3. Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way
4. Five Star - Can't Wait Another Minute
5. Midnight Star - Midas Touch

Record 1 Side 2

1. Gwen Guthrie - Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But The Rent
2. Farley "Jackmaster" Funk - Love Can't Turn Around
3. Timex Social Club - Rumors
4. Joyce Sims - All And All
5. Ca$hflow - Mine All Mine

Record 2 Side 1

1. Aretha Franklin - Who's Zoomin' Who?
2. Tavares - Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel
3. Paul Hardcastle - Don't Waste My Time
4. Jaki Graham - Breaking Away
5. Grace Jones - Pull Up To The Bumper

Record 2 Side 2

1. Sinitta - So Macho
2. Bronski Beat - Hit That Perfect Beat
3. MC Miker "G" & Deejay Sven - Holiday Rap
4. Phil Fearon - I Can Prove It
5. Boris Gardiner - I Wanna Wake Up With You

Alison Moyet - Hoodoo (CBS / Sony) (1991)

Howdy peeps!
It's been a while since I last posted and I promised I would make it a bit more regular - I know, I'm crap. But at least I'm here again...

Today's post is of one of my all time favourite albums. Alison "Alf" Moyet released her third solo offering "Hoodoo" back in 1991. The album passed me by completely at the time and I only purchased a copy of it around 10 years later after I'd purchased "The Singles" collection as I was intrigued by the quality of work released after her 2nd long player "Raindancing".

Released on the 22nd of April 1991 "Hoodoo" reached a peak of number 11 on the UK album charts and featured 4 singles:

"It Won't Be Long" (#50)
"Wishing You Were Here" (#70)
"This House" (#40)

"Hoodoo" was also released as a promotional only single in America.

The album is an absolute gem with so much emotion and passion in the entire set. My particular favourites are the achingly beautiful "Find Me" (the song gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it) and the exquisite "Hoodoo" (a karaoke favourite of mine - true)!

This is the deluxe 2 disc edition which includes the 11 track original album plus a bonus 14 extra tracks including a plethora of demos, remixes, b-sides and live tracks.

Enjoy!

All Mixed Up! Volume 15 : George Michael - The Definitive 1982 - 2016 (Innervision / Epic / Sony / Virgin / Agean)

Following on from the tragic news that another of my lifelong heroes had passed away on Christmas Day 2016, it's taken me some time to actually take in the enormity of George Michael's death and realise how much of an impact he had on my life.

Along with Pete Burns passing in November 2016 both artists impacted my life immeasurably but in very different ways, the main connection being that they have created a soundtrack to my life from my childhood right through to the present. As with many other fans the feeling of loss is enormous. It feels like I've lost a close friend...

It's taken some time to do this but I felt the urge to make a compilation of George's finest works - starting with his earliest as one half of Wham! and then moving onward to his outstanding solo work which started with "Careless Whisper" in 1984 right up to the present day.

As a singer and songwriter George has left an outstanding legacy through his music, visuals and charity work. This musical genius will live on forever in my heart and hopefully yours as well.

NOW That's What I Call Music 10 - Various Artists (Virgin / EMI / Polygram) (1987)

Good evening peeps, how we all doing?

Sat here this evening thinking what to do with myself, and then bam it hit me! Why not chuck a new post on and cheer you lovely lot up...

It's getting close to the silly season again and with it all comes a multitude of new releases all vying for your attention hoping to get that coveted Christmas number 1.

Rewind back to my giddy childhood days (1987 to be exact), when this little gem was released on November the 23rd. I was so excited I could have possibly had a little white wee wee in response to seeing the double paged add in my coveted Smash Hits magazine. The reason for this excitement you ask? Well, as the last NOW regular release was back in Spring I assumed (again wrongly) that the series was finished. (Not counting NOW, Smash Hits that was released prior to this). There were in fact, even rumours abound that after this particular volume they were not going to make anymore (sob!)... how wrong were we eh?!

This is my second favourite NOW of the main series. Not necessarily because of the tracklisting, although there are some classics in there and a few gems that are still blasted through my trusty Samsung S7 (Oooh, get her!), but because of the artwork. Neon lights and all things shimmery made my Christmas '87 all the more sparklier!!!!

The album includes number 1's by M/A/R/R/S "Pump Up The Volume", T'Pau "China In Your Hand" and Los Lobos' "La Bamba" but nothing can compete with the final track. It was an unusal way to finish the album off. Firstly because it was a Christmas track and secondly because it was released the same day as NOW 10 - the seminal "Fairytale Of New York" by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl.

Enjoy peeps!!!!!

All Mixed Up! Volume 14 - Donna Summer (Casablanca / Warner Bros) (1975 - 1997)

My final post for today is from the undisputed Queen Of Disco - none other than the legendary Miss Donna Summer. There isn't much I can add to what has already been said about the original disco diva that hasn't been said a million times before....

From the seductive tones of 'Love To Love You Baby' to the sheer powerhouse vocals featured on
'I Will Go With You' - this collection includes my particular favourites in their fullest forms including the 17+ minute epic that is 'MacArthur Park Suite' and the devastating 11+ minute version of

All Mixed Up! Volume 13 - Bros. (CBS / Sony) (1987 - 1990)

Next up, the reunion of the year...

As recently confirmed both Matt & Luke AKA Bros have reunited with big plans to perform at the O2 Arena in the not too distant future... Back in their heyday of the late 80's they were the biggest boy band around, dominating the UK charts and many a fans bedroom. What better way to relive those heady days of Bros. mania than with a little trip down memory lane...

Production - Pet Shop Boys / Various Artists (2016)

Well good afternoon me lovelies. It's been quite some time since I posted but there has been good a lot going on. What with moving to Lanzarote with my partner and settling in over the past few months. We're finally getting there and life is good.

Now that I actually have a few hours spare I though it was about time that I got my arse into gear and rebooted my blog... off we go then!

First up is a little compilation that was originally compiled and posted by DJ Shelf on one of my favourite blogs Methods Of Dance. The artwork was conceived by artist Harry3 and pays homage to previous Mark Farrow / PSB visuals,

This almighty compilation brings together the best of the Pet Shop Boys production and remix work with various artists throughout their astounding career. The track listing is impressive in itself featuring the likes of Eighth Wonder's major top 10 hit from 1988, "I'm Not Scared" and moving onto the likes of Liza Minnelli, Dusty Springfield, Electronic, Blur, Yoko Ono, Pete Burns, Rammstein and Madonna to name but a few... eclectic is the word.

Enjoy!

All Mixed Up! Volume 11 - Atomic Kitten (Virgin / Innocent) (1999)

OK, I couldn't resist one last post today.

My final offering today is a mini selection from 90's girl group Atomic Kitten.
Masterminded by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark front man Andy McCluskey the group went on to achieve significant success releasing 17 top 40 singles in the space of  5 years.
The biggest of these was "Whole Again" which became the 13th biggest selling single of the 00's.

This mini selection features the five singles released from their debut album "Right Now" back in 1999. On initial release the album reached a peak of number 39 in the UK charts. However following on from the massive success of "Whole Again" the album was
re-released hitting a peak of number 1 and selling in excess of 600,000 copies in the UK alone.

Enjoy this slice of pure pop!

That's my lot for today, have a great weekend you fabulous bunch and thanks for checking me out!
Big cubby cwtches. xxxxxxxxx

2. See Ya! (Sleazesisters Anthem Mix)

All Mixed Up Volume 10 - Dead Or Alive (Epic / Sony) (1984 - 1990)

Following on from the shocking news today confirming that Pete Burns has passed away as a result of a massive cardiac arrest, I thought it would be fitting to pay tribute to a true icon in the only way I know how...

I am utterly devastated as I have grown up with Dead Or Alive since my formative years way back in 1984. I've always loved Pete for his music as well as his dry sense of humour and sharp wit,

My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans alike.

RIP. Gone but never forgotten... ever!

The original post :

I have been a massive fan of Burns & Co. since the release of their only number one single "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" way back in late 1984. Unfortunately most would only ever recognise Dead Or Alive by that track which is a shame because they released some stunning work over the years. If you need any guidance then try and get hold of a deluxe edition of their hits package "Evolution". It's a mighty fine collection.

The track list for this particular collection brings together some of their greatest work in remix form along with some rarer imported or unreleased mixes, The Naughty XXX Mix of "Something In My House" and the Flip Out Mix of "Rip It Up" are amongst those that never saw an official release - listening to the former you'll understand why - hahahah...

I love this band to bits even after all these years. If you take the chance to side step "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" and are a big fan of 80's club / PWL stuff then you're going to love it too.

1. The Mighty Mix (Part 1)
2. Come Home With Me Baby (12" Version)
3. Brand New Lover (The Dust Monkey's Love Bubble Mix)
4. My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me To The Doctor) (Extended Mix)
5. Something In My House (Naughty XXX Mix)
6. Lover Come Back (To Me) (Extended Remix)
7. In Too Deep ("Off Yer Mong" Mix)
8. Misty Circles (Dance Mix)
9. You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) (Murder Mix)
10. Baby Don't Say Goodbye (Club Mix)
11. I'll Save You All My Kisses (The Long Wet Sloppy Kiss Mix)
12. Turn Around And Count 2 Ten (The Pearl & Dean " I Had A Disco Dream" Mix)
13. The Mighty Mix (Part 2)
14. Rip It Up (Flip Out Mix)

All Mixed Up! Volume 9 - Kylie Minogue (1987 - 1992) (PWL / Mushroom)

It's the weekend at last- woo hoo! (punches the air)...
Hope you're all well...

Next up in the AMU series is only the Princess Of Pop - Kylie!!!!!

Coming to prominence in the UK via Australian daytime soap "Neighbours" in the mid 80's as tomboy Charlene Mitchell, Kylie fast became a major hit with teen audiences.

As the story goes Kylie and her Neighbours colleagues attended a charity gig in Australia and went down a storm when an encore was demanded by their Aussie fans. With nothing prepared Kylie led the troop in a rousing rendition of Little Eva's hit from yesteryear "The Loco-Motion". With a rapturous response from the audience on the day the Australian public demanded that Kylie record and release it as a single. Promptly accepting the challenge a single was recorded and released reaching number 1 in Australia for 7 weeks and becoming one of the biggest sellers of the 80's there.

Fast forward to 1987 and Kylie was on route to visit The Hit Factory owned my Messrs. Stock / Aitken / Waterman to record a follow up single, Unknown to the trio of producers at the time legend has it that they were unprepared for the pocket rocket turning up and they duly knocked up her 2nd single (her debut in the UK) "I Should Be So Lucky" in 20 minutes. Kylie proceeded to belt out the single in one take and duly left to return to Australia...

On release "I Should Be So Lucky" raced to the top of the UK charts where it remained for a solid 5 weeks.

What followed over the next 4 years was a fantastic collection of classics that still stand up today.

This collection features remixes / alternative takes of every single one of those singles from "The Locomotion" right up to her final single with PWL "Celebration". Also included are rare and unreleased mixes of album tracks earmarked for release that never were.

There's more Kylie goodness here than you shake a shitty stick it at!!!!

NOW That's What I Call Music 5 - Various Artists (Virgin / EMI) (1985)

For my final offering today we skip a volume and head straight to the 1985 summer release for NOW 5.

Again the album reached a peak of number one in the summer for 5 weeks on release 5th August 1985.

The album originally only contained one number one represented by Sister Sledge's ode to Sinatra - "Frankie".

Record 1 Side 1

1. Duran Duran - A View To A Kill
2. Scritti Politti - The Word Girl
3. Harold Faltermeyer - Axel F
4. Fine Young Cannibals - Johnny Come Home
5. Dead Or Alive - In Too Deep
6. Stephen 'Tin Tin' Duffy - Icing On The Cake
7. Kool & The Gang - Cherish
8. Paul Young - Everytime You Go Away

Record 1 Side 2

1. Marillion - Kayleigh
2. Bryan Ferry - Slave To Love
3. David Bowie & The Pat Metheny Group - This Is Not America
4. Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
5. The Power Station - Get It On
6. China Crisis - Black Man Ray
7. Phil Collins - One More Night

Record 2 Side 1

1. Sister Sledge - Frankie
2. Mai Tai - History
3. Simply Red - Money's Too Tight (To Mention)
4. Steve Arrington - Feel So Real
5. Jaki Graham - Round And Around

7. Loose Ends - Magic Touch
8. Paul Hardcastle - 19*

Record 2 Side 2

1. U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
2. The Style Council - Walls Come Tumbling Down
3. Katrina & The Waves - Walking On Sunshine
4. Gary Moore & Phil Lynott - Out In The Fields
5. The Damned - The Shadow Of Love
6. Howard Jones - Life In One Day
7. Jimmy Nail - Love Don't Live Here Anymore

*Again I have done my best to emulate the original pressing as best I can. Unfortunately (or not depending on your taste) I've not been able to find a digital copy or otherwise of The Commentators parody single "N-N-Nineteen (Not Out) which was based on Paul Hardcastle's seminal "19" (peaking at number one just prior to NOW 5's release). In it's place I have added "19". Although not an accurate portrait of NOW 5, I personally think that "19" only adds to the greatness that is Record 2 Side 1.

NOW That's What I Call Music 3 - Various Artists (Virgin / EMI) (1984)

Following on from Volume 2 what else were you expecting next?

Capitalising on the previous two volumes, NOW 3 was released in the scorching summer of 1984 - on the 23rd of July to be exact...

It kind of goes without saying that the album topped the UK charts - for an almighty 8 weeks at that.
Only containing 3 number ones, the reason being that one of them, Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Two Tribes" had a stranglehold on the peak position for a staggering 9 weeks. The others were Duran Duran and Wham!

Volume 3 was the first of many volumes to incorporate the now infamous balls (behave!) and lighting streak motif that became synonymous with the brand through the 80's and into the early 90's.

It was released on double album / cassette, video selection and laserdisc.

Again the edits included on this album are replicated to be identical if not exactly the same as those on the original pressing.

Record 1 Side 1

1. Duran Duran - The Reflex
2. Nik Kershaw - I Won't Let Sun Go Down On Me
3. Sister Sledge - Thinking Of You
4. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Locomotion
5. Ultravox - Dancing With Tears In My Eyes
6. Howard Jones - Pearl In The Shell
7. Blancmange - Don't Tell Me
8. Phil Collins - Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)

Record 1 Side 2

1. Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes
2. Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel - White Lines (Don't Do It)
3. Special AKA - Nelson Mandela
4. Womack & Womack - Love Wars
5. The Style Council - You're The Best Thing
6. Bob Marley & The Wailers - One Love / People Get Ready
7. Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy

Record 2 Side 1

1. Queen - I Want To Break Free
2. Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time
3. Alison Moyet - Love Resurrection
4. The Bluebells - Young At Heart
5. Bananarama - Robert De Niro's Waiting
6. Propaganda - Dr. Mabuse
7. Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It
8. The Flying Pickets - When You're Young And In Love

Record 2 Side 2

1. Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
2. Thompson Twins - You Take Me Up
3. The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men
4. Gary Glitter - Dance Me Up
5. The Art Company - Susanna
6. Madness - One Better Day
7. David Sylvian - Red Guitar

NOW That's What I Call Music II - Various Artists (Virgin / EMI) (1984)

So today I've decided to head back to the 80's for another trip down memory lane.

NOW, That's What I Call Music II (or NOW 2) was released on the 26th March 1984.
Following on from the major success of the first volume released in December of the previous year, NOW 2 became an even bigger success than it's predecessor. Reaching a peak position of number 1 on the UK chart and staying there for 5 weeks, NOW II was released as a double album / cassette along with a video selection (VHS and Betamax) and finally on laserdisc.

This volume was the first to be compiled by Ashley Abram who carried out the task in hand right up to NOW 81.

The purpose of posting this is because so many NOW fans have repeatedly requested for the first 9 volumes to be reissued but to no avail from the NOW team...

Most of the tracks are identical to the edits used on the original pressing, only a minority are slightly longer than those used. If you can't tell which ones then it's a job done good,

Enjoy!

Record 1 Side 1

1. Queen - Radio Ga Ga
2. Nik Kershaw - Wouldn't It Be Good
3. Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now
4. Matt Bianco - Get Out Of Your Lazy Bed
5. Carmel - More, More, More
6. Madness - Michael Caine
7. The Flying Pickets - Only You

Record 1 Side 2

1. Nena - 99 Red Balloons
2. Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
3. Tracey Ullman - My Guy
4. Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride
5. Julia & Company - Breakin' Down (Sugar Samba)
6. Joe Fagin - That's Living Alright
7. Hot Chocolate - I Gave You My Heart (Didn't I)
8. Snowy White - Bird Of Paradise

Record 2 Side 1

1. Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax
2. Eurythmics - Here Comes The Rain Again

1990 Alternative Anthems - Part I : Urban / Soul (Various Artists / 1990)

Howdy Peeps!

First part of a double whammy for today. After having a scout through the old collection yesterday I found absolutely tons of old classics from yester-year. From 26 years ago to be precise - doesn't time fly?!!!!!

1990 was the year I left school to become a fully fledged adult (of sorts). At the time I had just started my first of many stints with HMV and my taste expanded rapidly. 1990 was the year that music exploded in every direction with everything from the Manchester scene kicking into gear to the rave scene going overground and becoming a force to be reckoned with.

I've split the two parts into distinctive themes as everyone has their own preferences from way back... This has been a great nostalgia trip for me today, I hope it is for you as well...

Much love & cwtches, xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

Herb Alpert Featuring Janet Jackson With Lisa Keith - Diamonds / Making Love In The Rain (1987 / A&M)

Following on from my previous post many of you hawk-eyed Janet aficionado's may have noted one omission that was released between "Let's Wait Awhile" & "The Pleasure Principle"...

"Diamonds".

Released on the 14th March 1987 "Diamonds" was the 2nd release from Herb Alpert's "Keep Your Eye On Me" album. It followed the title track into the UK top 30 hitting a peak of 27. The track was a much bigger hit in the US where it peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the US Dance / Club Charts.

"Making Love In The Rain" was the third and final single from the same album and features Lisa Keith on main vocal with Janet on backing. The track failed to crack the top 40 in the UK and was a moderate hit reaching number 35 on the Billboard 100.

Final track "Keep Your Eye On Me" was released as the lead single from the album and was the most successful of the three released in the UK hitting the Top 10 on release.

All three tracks were produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, long time collaborators with Miss Jackson.

Herb also featured on the "Cool Summer Mixes" of Janet's "Nasty" and is a co-founder of A&M Records - Janet's first label.

1. Diamonds (Dance Mix)
2. Diamonds (Instrumental)
3. Diamonds (Beats Dubcapella)
4. Diamonds (Cool Summer Dance Mix)
5. Diamonds (Dub Version)
6. Diamonds (7" Edit)
7. Diamonds (Cool Summer Mix)
8. Making Love In The Rain (7" Remix)
9. Making Love In The Rain (Extended Version)
10. Keep Your Eye On Me (Extended Version)

Janet Jackson - Control - 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition (A&M / 1986)

Time to break away from the club anthems for a while and on to something else...

Janet Jackson's "Control" was released on the 4th February 1986 and was preceded by the first single "What Have You Done For Me Lately" in January of the same year. That was when I first heard of Michael's relatively (to me anyway) unknown younger sister. On first hearing the single I was blown away as it was a millions miles away from "Thriller" in musical terms - in addition to being like nothing else around at the time either...

Then a couple of months later following the release of "Nasty" & "When I Think Of You" I managed to get my first listen of what I thought was Janet's first album - it might as well have been as her two previous releases, the eponymous "Janet Jackson" & "Dream Street" caused barely a ripple in the UK. It simply blew my mind! Tracks bordering on epic length, interludes, ass shaking beats and an unmistakable attitude that confirmed that Ms. Jackson had truly found her feet and was about to become a force to be reckoned with (how little we knew at time)...

Although the album contains only 9 tracks it spawned 7 top  60 UK hits (6 in the US of which 5 hit the Billboard Top 5). The tracks were released as follows (UK chart positions) :

What Have You Done For Me Lately (#3)
Nasty (#19)
When I Think Of You (#10)
Control (#42)
Let's Wait Awhile (#3)
The Pleasure Principle (#24)
Funny How Time Flies (When You're Having Fun) (#59)

But that's not all. Each respective single (with the exception of "Funny..." which didn't have one) came with spectacular visuals, the sharpest choreography and Miss Jackson centre stage - she was (and still is) mesmerising....

The album reached the milestone of hitting it's 30th anniversary this year and so far there hasn't been any talk of re-releasing it as a deluxe edition - that's where I come in...
I've attempted to put together a definitive collection of this absolute masterpiece which includes the original studio recording alongside a plethora of mixes from the original 12" releases.
Further to this I've also included several mixes that were released at the time of "Design Of A Decade 1986 - 96". I've also included the stand alone single "Start Anew" that was released in Japan only in 1985 and was to be considered as part of the "Control" album prior to release but was eventually dropped from the tracklisting.

Finally, you can view Miss Jackson in all her glory as there are links to 5 of the videos released from 'Control'

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do...

dj'aead Presents Anthems 1993 : A soundtrack to those early clubbing days. (1993 / Various Artists)

Well it's been a while since my last post hasn't it? I know, I'm terribly shoddy with my time keeping!

So to make up for my tardiness I've got a bumper selection of anthems that were prominent to this new arrival on the gay scene way back.... These anthems were the soundtrack to my life during my first days of coming out to the whole world. While not a definitive selection (there are too many to choose from), this selection holds many a happy memory of my early clubbing days. a-ha - Living A Boys Adventure Tale (1985 / 2010)

With the release of their new album Cast In Steel after a 5 year hiatus into early retirement, a-ha are back and firing on all cylinders...

I've been a fan of the group since the third release of "Take On Me" way back in 1985 along with the epic video. I kind of left them on the back burner after their first greatest hits album "Headlines & Deadlines" back in 1990 but then took a new interest after Foot Of The Mountain was released as their "final" studio album back in 2009. Ploughing through their back catalogue I found many lost gems that I can't believe I missed the first time around...

Doing a singles track list seems a bit pointless here. If you even remotely like the band the chances are you've probably got one of their Greatest Hits compilations already. Instead I've decided to mix it up a bit.

Of course there are a few classic singles (some of which were only minor hits) but there are plenty of classic album tracks that in my opinion are just as good, if not better than their more well known work...

1. Living A Boys Adventure Tale
2. Early Morning
3. Summer Moved On
4. There's Never A Forever Thing
5. Rolling Thunder
6. Crying In The Rain
7. The Weight Of The Wind
8. The Bandstand
9. You Wanted More
10. Mother Nature Goes To Heaven
11. Dark Is The Night
12. Forever Not Yours
13. I Call Your Name
14. Angel In The Snow
15. Lifelines
