The Best Of Stock, Aitken, Waterman - The 12" Mixes (PWL / London / Fanfare / Chrysalis / Supreme) (1984 - 1990)

I love a good 12" and Messrs S.A.W. along with mixmasters Phil Harding & Ian Curnow produced some sublime 12" remixes throughout the 80's and early 90's.

Consistently slagged off by the "serious" journalists back in their heyday for producing what was described as "chart fodder", a nostalgic look at their material confirms that they produced and remixed a wealth of quality stuff. And all emanating from The Hit Factory.

I've tried to showcase some of the less obvious tracks and minor hits along with a few well known classics as most of you will already know and / or have the mega hits already (however if you do fancy a second set then let me know)...

Personal favourites for me are Sinitta's "I Don't Believe In Miracles", Mel & Kim's "F.L.M." and Bananarama's "I Can't Help It". Hope you enjoy it!

Disc 1 :

1. Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) (Murder Mix)
2. Hazell Dean - Searching (12" Version)
3. Bananarama - Venus (Extended Version)
4. Mel & Kim - Respectable (Club Mix)
5. Sinitta - I Don't Believe In Miracles (Club Remix)
6. Jason Donovan - Nothing Can Divide Us (Great Scott! It's The Remix)
7. Rick Astley - Together Forever (Lover's Leap Mix)
8. Kylie Minogue - Wouldn't Change A Thing (Espagna Mix)
9. Donna Summer - Love's About To Change My Heart (Extended Remix)
10. Sonia - You'll Never Stop Me From Loving You (Extended Version)

Disc 2 :

1. Dead Or Alive - My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me To The Doctor) (Extended Remix)
2. Mel & Kim - F.L.M. (Extended Version)
3. Bananarama - I Can't Help It (Extended Club Mix)
4. Samantha Fox - Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now (Extended Version)
5. Princess - I'll Keep On Loving You (Original Full Length Album Version)
6. Brother Beyond - He Ain't No Competition (12" Version)
7. Stock, Aitken, Waterman - Roadblock (Extended Version)
8. Big Fun - Blame It On The Boogie (12" Remix)
9. Sonia - Counting Every Minute (The King's Counting House Mix)
10. Lonnie Gordon - Happenin' All Over Again (Hip House Mix)

The Braxtons - The Boss (MAW Remixes) (Atlantic / 1996)

Originally penned by Ashford & Simpson (of "Solid" fame) for Diana Ross Back in 1979, The Braxtons (featuring and then subsequently launching Toni Braxton's solo career) was a major hit for Diana Ross on its initial release - a complete disco monster...

Fast forward to 1996, The Braxtons released "The Boss" to critical acclaim. Although not a major hit here in the UK (#31 peak), their version of it as an absolute masterpiece - courtesy of Masters At Works exemplary remix work....

It also reached number one on the US Billboard Dance / Club Play charts - their eleventh up to that point... bewsh!

1. The Boss (Masters At Work Album Version)
2. The Boss (MAW Reprise)
3. The Boss (Masters At Work Dub)

All Mixed Up! Volume 4 : Neneh Cherry (Circa / 1988 - 1996)

Covering the best remixes of her 3 releases "Raw Like Sushi" (1989), "Homebrew" (1992) and "Man" (1996)...

Neneh has recently made a comeback (sorry, as much as I hate that word it is a comeback of sorts) with her first album in over 10 years - the gorgeously sparse " Blank Project". In light of this I thought it would be a great opportunity to showcase her older stuff... Neneh is not one to be pigeon-holed which can be clearly heard via this tracklist...

A class act, and one that I'm glad has made a spectacular return to form...

1. Buffalo Stance (Extended Mix)
2. Manchild (Full Length Version)
3. Kisses On The Wind (A Little More Puerto Rican)
4. Inna City Mama (Extended Version - Completely Re-Recorded)

The Latin Rascals - Dub Wise)
6. I've Got You Under My Skin (In Deep Mix)
7. Sassy (Featuring Guru From Gangstarr)
8. Somedays
9. 7 Seconds (With Youssou N'Dour) (Full Length Version)
10. Woman (Alex Reece Vocal Mix)
11. Money Love (Extended Mix)

Kiss AMC - A Bit Of... (Syncopate / 1989)

Next up, a nice little gem I came across while idly flicking through my collection on a lazy Sunday afternoon...

Kiss AMC hail from Manchester and originally formed way back in 1987.
Out of the several sporadic releases between 1987 and 1991 "A Bit Of..." was their most successful.
Hitting a peak of number 58 on the UK  National Charts and staying on there for 5 weeks the track features a cracking sample of U2's "New Years Day" to fine effect.
Having initially sampled the track without U2's prior permission, Messrs. Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen & Adam Clayton caught a whiff of the track prior to release and gave their seal of approval... Admittedly the vocals haven't aged that well but the track still rocks as a whole...

1. A Bit Of... (7" Edit)
2. The Raw Side
3. A Bit Of... (Extended Mix)
